Choosing a pack size

Liters by trip length, and how to measure your torso for the right fit.

Volume by trip

  • Day hikes and travel: 20–38 L (the Switchback 38L fits most airline carry-on limits when not overstuffed).
  • 1–3 nights: 38–55 L.
  • 4+ nights or winter: 55 L and up.

Torso length

Measure from the bony bump at the base of your neck down to the line between the tops of your hip bones. Switchback packs adjust from 16 to 21 inches.

Hip belt fit

The padded part of the hip belt should sit on top of your hip bones, with the buckle roughly at your belly button. Switchback hip belts come in two sizes; we'll swap yours for free if it doesn't close comfortably.
